Joao Felix enjoying ´best moments´ since Atleti arrival as Simeone prepares for Porto

Joao Felix has started to discover his best moments since joining Atletico Madrid ahead of their Champions League clash with Porto, according to Diego Simeone.

The Portugal international became the fifth most expensive signing in history when he joined Atleti from Benfica for €126million in July 2019.

Only Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele have moved for larger fees in world football than Joao Felix, who signed a seven-year deal but has struggled to deliver thus far.

The 22-year-old offered encouraging signs at the start of the 2022-23 season, though, assisting all three goals in the 3-0 opening-day LaLiga win over Getafe.

While Joao Felix is yet to find the net this season, Simeone believes the forward is finding his feet in…

Gazidis is committed to Arsenal, insists Emery

Unai Emery believes Ivan Gazidis remains committed to Arsenal despite reports linking the Premier League club s chief executive with AC Milan.

Gazidis has been at Arsenal since 2008 and played a key role in bringing Emery to Emirates Stadium as a replacement for long-standing manager Arsene Wenger.

Milan s recent takeover by Elliott Management, after former owner Li Yonghong failed to repay a €32million debt, has led to speculation new owner Paul Singer could move to appoint Gazidis.

But Emery, who is preparing his players for the new season at the International Champions Cup in Singapore, said his relationship with Gazidis remains strong.

He told reporters: I speak every day with him [Gazidis].

Here we come. 7 days to keep on working,…

Atletico boss Simeone confident Alvarez will adapt

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone said Julian Alvarez needs time to find his feet after a 3-0 win over Girona, predicting the forward will be incredible for Los Colchoneros.

Atleti got off the mark for the new campaign with a comfortable win over last season s LaLiga runners-up, with Antoine Griezmann, Marcos Llorente and Koke scoring.

Alvarez was quiet on his first start following his €95million (£81.5m) switch from Manchester City, but Simeone is certain he will come good.

Top players demand things to happen, people go to the stadium to watch them. We know what Julian brings and what he can give us, Simeone said.

We will try to exploit his best qualities, as a first striker or second striker, or on the wing

He is still missing connectio…

Manchester City acknowledge risk of charges after posting record £712m revenue

Manchester City have acknowledged the Premier League charges facing them risk having a “material impact” on the club, as they posted a league-record revenue figure of over £700million.

City earned £712.8m in the year ending June 30, an increase of almost £100m compared to the previous year and far outstripping the £648.4m Premier League record set by Manchester United when their most recent results were announced last month.

City’s run to the Champions League final – where they beat Inter Milan 1-0 in June – contributed to total broadcast revenue of £341.4m, including £113.85m just from UEFA.

However, the club’s annual report mentioned the 115 charges issued against them by the Premier League in February under the ‘Risks and Uncertainties’ s…

David Luiz close to Arsenal deal as Chelsea accept defender bid

Chelsea defender David Luiz is set to join London rivals Arsenal.

The 32-year-old Brazilian centre-back will leave Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium, boosting head coach Unai Emery’s backline options.

Omnisport understands a deal worth around £8million has been agreed between the clubs for a player who has enjoyed two spells at Chelsea either side of a two-year stint at Paris Saint-Germain.

David Luiz first joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2011, before departing for Paris three years later. He returned to west London in 2016 and won the Premier League title in his first year back at the club.

He was a regular for the Blues last season but the appointment of former team-mate Frank Lampard as Chelsea’s new manager has signalled change.

Bernardo Silva keen to avoid Ronaldo showdown in Champions League

Bernardo Silva has little desire for Manchester City to face a Champions League showdown with his international team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Silva contributed to a glut of goals as City thumped Schalke 7-0 in the last 16 on Tuesday, rounding off a 10-2 win that stands as the second-largest aggregate victory in Champions League history.

But there was drama elsewhere on the same night as Ronaldo netted a hat-trick in Juventus 3-0 triumph over Atletico Madrid, the Italian team overturning a 2-0 first-leg deficit to progress.

Ronaldo is a five-time winner of Europe s premier club competition and now the driving force as Serie A giants Juve try to claim their first continental triumph for 23 years.

The Champions League is the remaining major honour on City s…

Klopp loses Fabinho for Leicester trip but backs under-fire Alisson: ´Everybody knows how good he is

Jurgen Klopp promised Alisson has the full support of Liverpool s dressing room as he backed the goalkeeper to bounce back from his Manchester City nightmare.

The Reds boss also revealed that Fabinho has suffered an injury blow, ruling the midfielder turned stand-in centre-back out of Saturday s trip to Leicester City.

In his tale of two Brazilians, Klopp said he had taken Alisson aside this week to check on the shot-stopper after his error-plagued performance in Sunday s 4-1 defeat to Pep Guardiola s men at Anfield.

Two poor clearances with his feet presented City with chances from which they ruthlessly capitalised, and now Liverpool are 10 points adrift in the Premier League title race, the champions  hopes of a successful defence seemingly in tatters.

Rashford: It would have been a dream to play with Scholes at Man Utd

Marcus Rashford admits it would have been a dream to play with Paul Scholes at Manchester United.

Forward Rashford revealed his admiration for the club legend who retired in May 2013 when the duo appeared together on an episode of United s official podcast.

Scholes played in 718 games for the Red Devils after coming through the club s academy system, transforming from goalscoring midfielder to deep-lying playmaker in the final stages of his outstanding career.

His passing abilities would be ideal these days to pick out the runs of Rashford, who had scored 19 goals in all competitions this season before suffering a back injury.

It would have been a dream to play with someone like that, Rashford said during UTD Podcast. The biggest thing for me is ran…

Martinez hails Ronaldo´s ´historic´ landmark

Cristiano Ronaldo s 900th career goal sealed a 2-1 win for Portugal over Croatia in the Nations League, with Roberto Martinez hailing the historic moment .

The 39-year-old scored the landmark goal in the 34th minute, and it eventually proved to be the winner; Diogo Dalot opened the scoring but then handed Croatia a lifeline with an own goal just before the break.

Ronaldo s close-range strike was his 131st for Portugal in 213 appearances, with both of those records for any male player on the international stage.

Martinez showed his faith by keeping Ronaldo in his squad despite an underwhelming Euro 2024 campaign in which he failed to score and was delighted to see the forward hit his latest milestone.

It s a historic moment. 900 goals is incredible, Marti…
