Alves confirms Barcelona departure

Dani Alves has confirmed he is leaving Barcelona for the second time in his career.

Having left the Blaugrana to join Juventus in June 2016, Alves announced his return to Camp Nou in November 2021, though he had to wait until January to be eligible to feature for the Catalan giants.

The 39-year-old right-back contributed one goal and four assists in 17 appearances in his second spell as Barca finished second in LaLiga.

Alves had previously expressed a desire to stay with the club next season in preparation for the World Cup at the end of the year, but confirmed on Wednesday that will not be the case.

The Brazil international posted on Instagram: Now the time has come for our farewell. They were eight-plus years dedicated to the club, the colours, and t…

Bitesize Prediction: Sunderland vs Sheffield Wednesday – 18/08/24

Market: Over 1.5 goals

Odds: 4/11 @

Flying out of the traps since opening up the 2024/25 campaign, Sheffield Wednesday will travel to the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon when they meet Sunderland.

Starting with the hosts, eventually limped their way to a bottom-half finish last season, Sunderland are desperate to find some crucial stability this time around. Although the Black Cats might have opened proceedings last weekend with an impressive 2-0 victory away at Cardiff, Regis Le Bris saw his squad come crashing back down to earth earlier in the week. Watching their EFL Cup adventure come to an abrupt end as they slumped to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Preston, the former Lorient boss will be calling on an immediate response here. However, signing off their p…

FFF president hopes Pogba does not lose France spot over alleged extortion affair

French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet has professed his hope Paul Pogba will remain in the France squad for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, amid the midfielder s ongoing off-field issues.

The playmaker, a World Cup winner under Didier Deschamps at Russia 2018, is sidelined through injury at Juventus, following his return to the Bianconeri after six frustrating years with Manchester United.

But Pogba also has significant concerns away from the pitch, with his lawyers stating he has been the target of an extortion attempt by an organised gang.

The statement came amid claims by the player s reportedly estranged brother Mathias promising to publish great revelations about Pogba s character.

The affair has overshadowed the build-up to Deschamps anno…

Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao will lock horns with each other in La Liga this coming weekend. The match between Hansi Flick’s team and Ernesto Valverde’s side will be held at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys and is scheduled to kick off at 6 pm UK time this coming Saturday.

Barcelona

Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are a Spanish giant. However, in recent years, the Blaugrana have not been at their best and have struggled financially. It is hard to envisage Barcelona winning the UEFA Champions League anytime soon, and even beating Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to the La Liga title will be hard.

The Blaugrana finished second in the La Liga table last season, but …

Rumour Has It: PSG ready to re-appoint Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel has been out of a job since being sacked by Chelsea in September but could be on the brink of a return to action.

The German has previously led top European clubs Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and the Blues, whom he took to the 2020-21 Champions League title.

The 49-year-old has been linked with numerous vacant posts in recent months but reportedly turned down two Premier League offers.

TOP STORY – PSG WILLING TO ADMIT TUCHEL ERROR

PSG have grown frustrated with head coach Christophe Galtier and are ready to move to re-appoint Thomas Tuchel, claims the Evening Standard.

The club sacked Tuchel in December 2020 after two and a half years in charge with the best win percentage in Ligue 1 history.

Joao Felix enjoying ´best moments´ since Atleti arrival as Simeone prepares for Porto

Joao Felix has started to discover his best moments since joining Atletico Madrid ahead of their Champions League clash with Porto, according to Diego Simeone.

The Portugal international became the fifth most expensive signing in history when he joined Atleti from Benfica for €126million in July 2019.

Only Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele have moved for larger fees in world football than Joao Felix, who signed a seven-year deal but has struggled to deliver thus far.

The 22-year-old offered encouraging signs at the start of the 2022-23 season, though, assisting all three goals in the 3-0 opening-day LaLiga win over Getafe.

While Joao Felix is yet to find the net this season, Simeone believes the forward is finding his feet in…

Gazidis is committed to Arsenal, insists Emery

Unai Emery believes Ivan Gazidis remains committed to Arsenal despite reports linking the Premier League club s chief executive with AC Milan.

Gazidis has been at Arsenal since 2008 and played a key role in bringing Emery to Emirates Stadium as a replacement for long-standing manager Arsene Wenger.

Milan s recent takeover by Elliott Management, after former owner Li Yonghong failed to repay a €32million debt, has led to speculation new owner Paul Singer could move to appoint Gazidis.

But Emery, who is preparing his players for the new season at the International Champions Cup in Singapore, said his relationship with Gazidis remains strong.

He told reporters: I speak every day with him [Gazidis].

Here we come. 7 days to keep on working,…

Atletico boss Simeone confident Alvarez will adapt

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone said Julian Alvarez needs time to find his feet after a 3-0 win over Girona, predicting the forward will be incredible for Los Colchoneros.

Atleti got off the mark for the new campaign with a comfortable win over last season s LaLiga runners-up, with Antoine Griezmann, Marcos Llorente and Koke scoring.

Alvarez was quiet on his first start following his €95million (£81.5m) switch from Manchester City, but Simeone is certain he will come good.

Top players demand things to happen, people go to the stadium to watch them. We know what Julian brings and what he can give us, Simeone said.

We will try to exploit his best qualities, as a first striker or second striker, or on the wing

He is still missing connectio…

Manchester City acknowledge risk of charges after posting record £712m revenue

Manchester City have acknowledged the Premier League charges facing them risk having a “material impact” on the club, as they posted a league-record revenue figure of over £700million.

City earned £712.8m in the year ending June 30, an increase of almost £100m compared to the previous year and far outstripping the £648.4m Premier League record set by Manchester United when their most recent results were announced last month.

City’s run to the Champions League final – where they beat Inter Milan 1-0 in June – contributed to total broadcast revenue of £341.4m, including £113.85m just from UEFA.

However, the club’s annual report mentioned the 115 charges issued against them by the Premier League in February under the ‘Risks and Uncertainties’ s…
