Everton linked with Martin Braithwaite

Everton are interested in signing Martin Braithwaite from Espanyol in the summer transfer window, according to . The report in the Spanish news outlet has claimed that Everton are among three Premier League clubs who are keen on securing the services of the Denmark international, who can operate as a striker or as a winger.

AS has noted that Braithwaite is happy at Espanyol, but the financial reward he would get by moving to the Premier League is something that the former Barcelona player have to consider. The former Middlesbrough striker is 33 years of age now.

Braithwaite has been on the books of Espanyol since 2022 when he joined them as a free transfer after leaving Barcelona. The 33-year-old helped the Barcelona club get promoted from the Segunda Division to La Lig…

Everton to appeal against two-point deduction for second PSR rule breach

Everton are planning to appeal against their two-point deduction for a second breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, but face yet another hearing and the prospect of further punishment.

The Toffees, who were docked six points earlier this season for breaking PSR rules in the assessment period up to the 2021-22 season, have been handed another penalty for the three-year cycle to 2022-23 after admitting a breach of £16.6million.

The punishment drops them one place to 16th in the Premier League table, two points above the relegation zone.

The independent commission was unable to decide on whether there was a further breach relating to costs of £6.5m. That case will be heard at an unspecified date, and the PA news agency understands any r…

The three Man Utd youngsters who could be breakthrough stars for Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag is the latest boss Manchester United have turned to in their pursuit of success in the post-Alex Ferguson era.

David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have failed to meet expectations since Ferguson s retirement in 2013, leaving Ten Hag with a difficult challenge on his hands.

Aside from getting results right on the pitch and challenging for honours, Ten Hag also has the task of bleeding young talent into the first-team fold on a regular basis – something his predecessors have all continued to do despite their eventual failings.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay have capitalised on opportunities in the past decade after rising through the club s youth ranks – and United have no shortage of players who ca…

Sweden 0-3 Belgium: Lukaku hat-trick gets Tedesco tenure off to flying start

Romelu Lukaku scored a hat-trick as Belgium kicked off a new era under Domenico Tedesco with a 3-0 win over Sweden on Friday in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier.

The Red Devils replaced Roberto Martinez with Tedesco after exiting the World Cup at the group stage, while a number of big names also retired from international football.

Tedesco s tenure got off to a flying start at Friends Arena in Stockholm, where Lukaku s header and a close-range finish either side of half-time had the visitors in control.

Sweden brought on 41-year-old striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Lukaku completed his treble in the 82nd minute to round off a comfortable victory.

Great way to start our road to Germany.

Inter Milan want Firmino

According to a recent report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan are preparing a surprise offer to sign Roberto Firmino.

The Liverpool star, who has been at the club since making the move over from Hoffenheim in 2015, is set to depart Anfield at the end of the current campaign. While he’s still able to make waves for the Reds, he’s no longer the guaranteed first teamer that he once was.

Inter Milan, meanwhile, have had a mixed campaign. They’re still alive in both the Coppa Italia and the Champions League, but they are floundering down in fifth position in Serie A.

They clearly want to strengthen when we get to the summer transfer window, and Firmino is someone they have their eye on.

The Brazilian is only 31 years old and in Italy, you’d imag…

Liverpool still among title challengers, insists ex-Reds midfielder Mohamed Sissoko

Liverpool are still among the challengers for the Premier League title despite an indifferent start to the season, according to Mohamed Sissoko.

The Reds were beaten to the title by a solitary point by rivals Manchester City in an exhilarating 2021-22 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp s side lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich but were still expected to be among the main challengers for the Premier League again this season after spending big on Darwin Nunez.

However, Liverpool have not had the start to the season they were hoping for, sitting eighth in the table after six games with only two wins to their name, drawing three and losing another to fierce rivals Manchester United.

That patchy start means Liverpool are already nine points adrift of leaders Arsenal and eig…

´We are no longer a top nation´ – Badstuber calls for change after Germany´s ´debacle´ in Qatar

Germany can no longer call themselves an elite football nation after enduring an embarrassing elimination from the World Cup, according to former defender Holger Badstuber.

Hansi Flick s side finished third in a closely contested Group E despite beating Costa Rica 4-2 on Thursday, with Japan and Spain advancing after the Samurai Blue claimed a memorable 2-1 win over La Roja.

Germany have now failed to reach the knockout stages at consecutive World Cups and have gone 12 major tournament games without a clean sheet – their longest ever such run.

Writing in his World Cup column for Eurosport, Badstuber – a bronze medallist at the 2010 tournament – called for Germany to go back to basics.

It is a debacle. Weak, embarrassing, unworthy, disappointing, he…

Chelsea the title favourites as Leicester look to survive – WSL talking points

The 2022-23 Women’s Super League season reaches its conclusion on Saturday with matters still to be decided at both ends of the table.

Here, the PA news agency looks at the main talking points heading into the finale.

Chelsea in pole position

Holding a two-point lead at the top, five-time champions Chelsea will secure the title for a fourth successive year – to complete a league and FA Cup double – if they beat Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium. While Emma Hayes’ side, currently on a six-match winning streak in which they have scored 24 goals and conceded one, are certainly well-fancied to do so, they are facing opponents battling for their WSL lives. Kelly Chambers’ rock-bottom Royals need a victory to have any chance of survival, with them two points…

Prediction: Twente vs RB Salzburg

Best Odds: 4/7

Bookmaker:

Looking to extend on their Champions League qualifying adventure on Tuesday evening, Salzburg will travel the De Grolsch Veste when they meet Twente.

Twente

Starting with the hosts, despite eventually falling to a 2-1 loss when they travelled to Austria for their first-leg showdown last week, Joseph Oosting’s men will be relishing a return to home soil here. Picking up some welcomed momentum over the weekend as they opened the new Eredivisie campaign with a 2-1 victory against Nijmegen, the Reds should be smelling the chance to complete a Champions League turnaround on Tuesday evening. Securing a bronze medal finish among Holland’s elite last season, the former Vitesse coach should find the mood in his camp at a continued high. Sig…
