Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will fancy his chances of finally beating Chelsea after a five-year winless run in the Premier League.
Arsenal welcome London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium in Saturday’s Premier League clash, in a game that has seen the Gunners fall short for the last five years.
However, it’s Arsenal who boast superior form ahead of this weekend’s meeting, and Arsene Wenger’s men could exact their long-awaited revenge given Chelsea’s frailties as a result.
Arsenal have the momentum
Saturday’s meeting with Chelsea sees Arsenal coming off the back of three consecutive Premier League wins. The Gunners overcome a slow start to the season with victories over Watford (3-1), Southampton (2-1) and Hull City (4-1) to find themselves fourth in the table with 10 points from a possible 15.
Arsenal thrashed Nottingham Forest (4-0) in the EFL Cup in midweek too and come into this weekend’s clash in fantastic shape as a result. Manager Arsene Wenger has no fresh injury woes, and will tell his players that there’s no better time to face Chelsea.
The Blues have dropped points in their last two Premier League games, and are still adjusting to the new manager’s philosophy which could mean they’re disjointed travelling to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Arsenal’s prolific attack could shine against Chelsea’s porous defence
Arsenal have been full of goals this season which could see them pick apart a porous Chelsea defence this weekend. The Gunners have scored three or more goals in three of their five Premier League games this season, and have bagged 17 goals in all competitions in 2016/17 already.
In the top-flight, only Premier League leaders Manchester City have scored more goals than Arsenal ahead of this weekend’s round of games, and a Chelsea defence having conceded two or more goals in four of their last five games in all competitions could well see something give. Chelsea are without captain John Terry at the heart of the defence too which could mean they’re exploitable.
Arsenal have failed to score in their last six Premier League head-to-heads with Chelsea, but it’s hard to see the Londoners shut out this time round. Defeat could see Arsenal eight points adrift in the title-race so it’s unthinkable for their hopes of major honours that they fall short in a game where they are much-fancied.
Arsene Wenger’s men have only lost once at home to Chelsea in the Premier League since 2012 so they have historically always been hard to beat despite seldom winning. in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. Can the Gunners finally deliver?
