Liverpool in for Marchisio

that Liverpool are set to make a move for Juventus star Claudio Marchisio.

New Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is drawing up a list of potential targets for when the transfer window reopens in January, and the midfield is one area he is looking at strengthening.

Marchisio has been previously linked with a transfer to the Premier League with Manchester United looking the most likely to land his services two summers ago.

He has been part of the squad that has won four consecutive league titles while he also played in last season’s Champions …

Mancini: I changed the Manchester derby

Roberto Mancini believes he changed the dynamics of the rivalry between Manchester City and Manchester United during his time in the Premier League.

The 50-year-old led City to FA Cup glory in 2010-11 before guiding them to their first ever Premier League title in 2011-12.

Mancini thinks it was his arrival at the Etihad Stadium that turned the club into an equal rival for a United side that dominated the English top flight for so many years.

I helped to change the dynamics of the Manchester derby and it was very difficult to do that, he told Qatar s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

United were a top club for many years and to achieve the status of equality was very tough.

We bought a lot of good players who worked very hard and gave t…

Benzema hits back after FFF president backs World Cup omission

Karim Benzema slammed French Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graet for showing his true face by supporting Didier Deschamps decision to leave the Real Madrid striker out of France s World Cup squad.

The 30-year-old has not been picked by his country since October 2015, having been investigated in relation to an alleged attempt to blackmail his international team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.

Although Deschamps has in the past suggested the door is not closed to Benzema, his ongoing absence has often raised questions.

Le Graet was asked about Benzema s omission from the World Cup squad in a recent interview and, despite previously saying he would not comment on the situation, he surmised that France now play a certain style of play and we cannot go back .

Jay Rodriguez eyes England return after West Brom move

Jay Rodriguez hopes regular first-team football at West Brom can help him follow new team-mate Jake Livermore into the England squad.

After leaving Southampton to sign a four-year deal with West Brom in a move reportedly worth an initial £12million, potentially rising to £15m with add-ons, the forward cannot wait to get started.

Rodriguez, who previously played for Burnley, was a regular in his first two seasons at Saints, starring with 15 Premier League goals in 2013-14, but an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and then a serious ankle injury meant he only started three Premier League games in the next two campaigns.

The 27-year-old did make 24 top-flight appearances last season, but only nine were starts, thwarting his hopes of reclaiming the England spot he…

Prediction: APOEL vs Ajax

As for the visitors, while Ajax may have gone about it the hard way against Greek champions PAOK last week, their dramatic 5-4 aggregate win has seen them now extend their winning run to three matches on the bounce. Enjoying a stellar campaign both domestically and in Europe last season, along with lifting their first Eredivisie title in five years, Erik ten Hag s men also secured a spot in the semi-final of the Champions League before eventually crashing out against Tottenham at the Johan Cruijff Arena. Despite now scoring 16 goals in their last five appearances, Ajax do have some defensive issues that need resolving. Along with shipping four goals against PAOK over both legs, they have recorded just a pair of clean sheets in any of their last 16 contests. Although the Dutch heavyweigh…

El Clasico: How Messi and Barcelona turned their season on its head

It was billed as one of the most important Clasicos in years. The outcome, it was said, could set the tone for the entire season and, by extension, the future of Lionel Messi.

The Argentinian s revelation he wanted to leave was still ringing in the ears of Barca directors two months on in October last year. While they d managed to keep hold of him, owing to Messi s reluctance to drag his club through the courts, his form on the pitch hardly suggested he was at peace.

One goal in four LaLiga matches heading into that October 24 Clasico was his slowest start to a season since 2005-06 when he was a fresh-faced teenager still trying to establish himself.

What followed at Camp Nou on that Saturday looked set to plunge Barca further into crisis, as the Catalans lost 3…

Ronaldo represents Juventus future – sporting director Paratici

Despite the heavy speculation on the subject in the last couple of days, Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici appears to have ruled out Cristiano Ronaldo leaving this summer.

The Portuguese superstar arrived to Turin for around €100 million in 2018, after nine extremely successful years at Real Madrid during which he helped the Spanish giants win four Champions League trophies. Since then, he has made 122 appearances across all competitions for the Old Lady, scoring 95 goals and assisting his teammates on 22 occasions, and winning the Serie A title in both seasons completed so far.

Following Juventus exit from the Champions League at the hands of FC Porto, he has been strongly linked with a return to the Santiago Bernabeu and Real boss Zinedine Zidane refused to …

I can confirm that I have signed with the Spanish team until 2016, Del Bosque said.

And the former Real Madrid coach admitted that, while his side had received a warm welcome in Equatorial Guinea, he was not expecting the match to be a walk in the park.
